Keep lips moisturized with a lip balm or ointment for at least 3 days prior to each appointment.
Hydrated lips are crucial for a successful procedure.
Additional Pre-Care Instructions For Eyeliner Tattoos
Remove lash extensions before your appointment.
Avoid lash perming/lifting, tinting, or over-the-counter lash serums for at least 2 weeks prior.
If using prescription Latisse, discontinue use 3 months prior and consult your doctor.
Bring contact lens supplies and glasses, as lenses must be removed and you will need glasses post-procedure.
Failure to follow aftercare instructions may result in infections, pigment loss, or discoloration.
Always begin by washing your hands thoroughly.
Cleanse the treated area using:
Mild soap and water, or just water.
Use your fingertips with gentle, small circular motions.
Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a disposable cotton pad, gauze, or tissue.
After cleansing, apply a thin layer of A&D ointment.
Reapply as needed for dryness.
Avoid applying thick or heavy layers ("no globbing").
Use extreme caution to avoid getting soap in the eyes.
Cleanse only the external eyelid skin.
Day 1
The pigment will appear bright, bold, and exaggerated.
Swelling, redness, tenderness, and tightness are normal.
Use cold compresses or ice packs to reduce discomfort.
Day 2
The area may appear even bolder than on Day 1.
Days 3 to 14
The area will begin to peel and flake.
Do NOT pick, rub, or scratch the treated area.
Allow any scabbing or dry skin to naturally exfoliate.
Itchiness is normal, but do not scratch or tap the area directly.
Healing times vary. When peeling process is complete, the skin is considered "closed". This can take 5 to 14 days.
While the skin is still considered “open”, strictly avoid:
Prolonged UV exposure (sunlight/tanning)
Makeup or any other products within a half-inch of the treated area
Swimming in oceans, springs, pools, etc.
Saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise/sweating
Botox or filler injections (especially around the face)
Any skincare treatments
At this stage, the skin is considered “closed.”
It is normal for the color to appear too light—this is the "Ghosting Phase."
Final color results will become visible after at least 4 weeks.
No touch-ups or evaluations should be done until full healing is complete.
Permanent makeup is a long-lasting but semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo. To preserve your results and reduce fading, please follow these important guidelines:
Skincare ingredients can cause color loss or distortion in the tattooed area. Avoid using products on or within a finger-width (half-inch) of the treated area that contain:
Ingredients ending in “-acid” (except hyaluronic acid)
Retinol, Retin-A, Retinoids
Chemical exfoliants and scrubs
These products can lead to significant fading and pigment changes.
UV radiation can break down pigment molecules, leading to premature fading.
Apply SPF daily to the area once fully healed.
Use physical barriers like hats or sunglasses for added protection.
Consistent sun exposure without protection is one of the leading causes of pigment loss.
To maintain the best appearance of your permanent makeup:
Annual touch-ups are recommended.
Set a reminder for 12 months after your appointment.
Fading rates vary due to:
Skin type
Skincare routine
Hormones
Genetics
Sun exposure
Lifestyle factors
If your pigment fades significantly before your annual touch-up, you may require a follow-up 4–6 weeks after your touch-up to restore color and shape.
Permanent makeup may appear as an artifact on an MRI scan.
Some clients may experience a tingling sensation during imaging.
It is important to notify your radiologist if you have had permanent makeup.
Botox and dermal fillers can temporarily alter the shape and symmetry of the eyebrows.
Injectables should be scheduled after your permanent makeup procedure, not before.
Performing them beforehand can lead to undesired changes in shape and results.
